Choosing the right transfer size is the difference between a print that looks professionally placed and one that looks like a sticker. This chart covers the sizes we stock, the placements they suit, and the standard dimensions used across adult, youth and toddler garments. One rule covers most decisions: a full-front adult design usually sits between 10 and 12 inches wide, a left-chest logo between 3 and 4 inches wide, and a youth print roughly 70 to 80 percent of the adult size. Everything else is a variation on those three.

Four Rules That Cover Most Jobs
Measure the Garment, Not the Art
A design should sit inside the chest panel with clear margin on both sides.
Youth Is 70 to 80 Percent
Take your adult width and scale it down. A 12" adult front becomes roughly 9" youth.
Start Two Inches Below the Collar
For a full front, the top of the print usually sits 2 to 3 inches under the collar seam.
Size Up, Never Up-Scale
Export artwork at 300 DPI at final size. Enlarging a small file afterwards softens edges.

Where to Place Each Transfer
Full front: center the design and start the top of the print 2 to 3 inches below the collar seam on adult shirts, slightly less on youth. Left chest: measure about 4 inches down from the shoulder seam and 4 inches across from the center of the shirt. Sleeves: keep designs to 3 or 4 inches wide and place them 2 to 3 inches below the shoulder seam. Full back: start 3 to 4 inches below the back collar. Whatever the placement, keep at least 2 inches clear of side seams and 3 inches clear of the hem. Sizing for Text, Detail and Photos
Small text is where most sizing mistakes show up. Keep sans-serif lettering at least 0.2 inches tall and script or decorative fonts at least 0.25 inches tall at final print size. Photographic artwork and soft gradients hold their detail best at 8 x 8 inches or larger. Always export at 300 DPI at the size you are ordering, or send a vector file, which scales cleanly to any size. What If My Size Is Not Listed?
The sixteen stock sizes cover the vast majority of garment printing, but they are not a limit. Anything outside them, including oversized back prints, unusual aspect ratios, or a batch of mixed dimensions, goes on a gang sheet where you set the exact size of every design yourself. Getting Placement Right on the Garment
Fold to find the centre
Fold the shirt lengthwise and press a light crease to mark the vertical centreline.
Measure down from the collar
Two to three inches below the collar seam for adult full fronts, less for youth.
Check with the transfer in place
Lay the cut transfer down and step back before you press. It is free to reposition.
Press at 315 to 325°F
15 seconds, firm pressure, peel cold, then re-press for 10 seconds. Use 265 to 280°F for 20 seconds on heat-sensitive fabrics.

What size DTF transfer should I use for an adult t-shirt?
For a full-front print on an adult shirt, 10 to 12 inches wide is standard. A left-chest logo is typically 3 to 4 inches wide.
What size should a youth shirt print be?

Can a DTF transfer be resized after it is printed?
No. The ink, film and adhesive are fixed once the transfer is printed and cured, so the size you order is the size you press. Confirm your dimensions before checkout, or put a few sizes on one gang sheet to test them.
